The World Thru My Eyes - I speak my mind and man does it like to talk.
Published on November 11, 2009 By CharlesCS In PC Gaming

After Infinity Ward's idiotic (to me) choice of taking the "greatly anticipated" PC sequel to Call Of Duty 4 Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2 and stripping it of that which made it unique to PC gamers, dedicated servers; now, after the release of the game to the masses, it seems that IW had little intentions of pleasing the PC gamers community as I spoke to a friend who had told me he would not buy this game but never figured his wife loved him so much that she bought him a copy of the PC version and found out that this game was never meant for PC gamers.

Not only does Modern Warfare 2 lack dedicated servers, but on top of this IW decided to eliminate many of the things that made these games worth playing.

  • No console commands - there are no console commands that allows you to make changes to the games such as firing rate, unlimited ammo, weapon damage, etc.
  • No ability to kick people - IW will be responsible for catching hackers and kicking them, isn't that great?
  • Max players on multiplayer 18 - That is the most people that can be in a single multiplayer game. Good luck to the clans with more than 18 members.
  • IW.net picks host - Sorry the game is the only one who gets to chose who host the game and if the chosen perso leaves, there is a 5 second delay before a new player is chose to host, every time a new player is picked.
  • Can't reassign keys in single player mode - if nades are set to G then G you must use. Sorry. Not sure about multiplayer mode though I am sures it's the same.

I guess someone had to waste $60 in order for the rest of us to be saved from this horror of a game. I wouldn't pay $20 for it at this point. Hell, it's not even worth downloading illegally. This game was truly not meant with PC gamers in mind. The following article has proof of that as questions made to 2 IW reps by PC gamers in an online chat hosted by Best Buy (which is where I found most of the stuff I pointed out above) showed just how little they cared about PC gamers.

Moriarte: Ignoring IW.net, is the PC version a direct port of the console version?

Mackey-IW: No, PC has custom stuff like mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings.

LOL, ingame chatting, mouse control and graphic settings; that is what seperates us PC gamers from Console gamers. This is an insult to be honest.

I am sad that this could mean the end of the Call of Duty series for me. Maybe Treyatch might get a second chance to improve on their not so great but acceptable World At War version. Hell, here's a chance for more Zombie Mode updates and improvements.

I do wish to ask you readers your opinions on how you game.

No point in voting with your wallet, IW is making mad bank on this.

Fact is IW has no reason to care about PC gamers.

Fact #2- there are better games that do.  I'm not worried.

The only reason I own a console period is due to fighting games.  Yeah, SFIV is on Impulse, but I'm a fan of the genre in general.  (And yes Stardock, do whatever you have to do to get SSFIV on Impulse as well, Capcom is waffling about doing it)

Buy ARMA 2... or buy a console version of MW2...

The poll is rather biased, seeing as we're all on the Demigod forums (PC game) /shrug

The poll is not baised. This article was posted on the joeuser.com forums under PC gaming. As ShadowDragon was so nice to explain, Stardock forums crosspost depending on the category you put on the article. I may consider adding a taxt at the end of my articles to indicate where the articles are being posted just so people don't get confused.

ChuckCS I wasn't talking about clans, I've been members of clans before and it's a great way to enjoy a game, I was talking about how a bandwagon on the internet becomes a fucking army of people all singing the same tune.  People are all crying about something because everyone else is and it's cool to Boycott Left 4 Dead 2, hate EA, hate DRM, support Piratebay, cry about CoD MW 2 cause of dedicated servers.  It's boring to read the same unresearched, inherited opinions.

this is what happens if one is not able to understand the reason why some people are crying. they just pretend they only do it because others do the same. seems to be far beyond your abilities to accapt that the reason that so many people are complaining is not mass-hysteria!

Mass-hysteria isn't quite the angle I was going with.  It's more a similar psychology to moral panic, people read it enough from other users, don't research things enough and just jump on the bandwagon.

For example ChuckCS says

"Who are you to deny anyone the right to criticize and boycott anything? And who are you to criticize them? You could have easily ignored this article yet you chose to read and then reply. On top of that you criticize that which you do yourself, your own unresearched, inherited opinion."

which is absolute comedy.

Why does he have a right to complain about a game he hasn't even played and yet I can't claim that people who jump on the CoD MW2 is bad bandwagon are only doing themselves an injustice because I HAVE played it and I still claim it's an awesome game.

I don't have the ability to comprehend people's complaints?  Or maybe I can understand what they are complaining about but I form my own opinion from my own experience and read a little beyond some random kid on the internets rant (not accusing anyone in this thread of being a kid, they are just a high percentage of internet forums users) and I'm not a sheep like the majority of the public is.

Yeah, bit angry at Infinity Ward's choices. Kinda ruined it.  I don't own the game to I can't verify or deny what you are saying, but it seems to be the genral consensus across the internet.

You can reassign keys in SP. Afaik, you need to start the campaign to have access to the menu (AKA settings and such). but yeah, they trolled all of us like pros with their shitty MP.

Who ever said that voting with your wallet meant you were going to put a company out of business? Beanie babies were selling like hot cakes in the what, 90s was it? I didn't buy those either. I am not going to buy something just because everyone else is simply because the company won't "feel" my lack of sale. If you don't like it what the company did to PC sales, don't buy it. Don't buy it for PC or Console, go reward another company for a good product and behavior that you do appreciate it instead.

I don't think that this was all Infinity Ward's fault. COD:MW2 was published by Activision, and they seem to be replacing EA as the PC haters these days. My guess is that Activision made this happen.

Besides, we've got Battlefield Bad Company 2 coming out, and the guys at EA said that there will be dedicated severs and other stuff on that.

also take note Infinity ward host the servers for 360 / PS3 , for PC they host a single server that pretty much serves as a meeting place before the game is hosted by 1 person with the best connection.

So, individual gamers are the hosts?  What kinds of online multiplayer performance are people having?  Most people don't have a fat upstream pipe so how are people going to host?  Is MW2 full of lag and packet loss?

on Nov 29, 2009

I hear it's full of games where the host as 0 ping advantage and the other players have anywhere from 100 to 250 ping to the host. But that's just hearsay, so count that as you will. : X

on Nov 30, 2009

I have had no issues with lag, much less than I have in some other games anyway.  Certainly if you host Left 4 Dead locally with just 8 players it lags to hell but this plays 18 players easily.  The worst issue is that about 1 in 20 games the host needs to migrate to someone else and you get about a 5-10 second pause.  Very rarely also you can't connect to the person who becomes the host and you get booted.

Playing with friends is easy as pie, just like the console versions.

Mow Mow I can only say that my experience is nothing like that.
