The World Thru My Eyes - I speak my mind and man does it like to talk.

Although they say nothing is free in life, who doesn't love freebee's? When it comes to computers, I am big on free software (open source as many call it as well), although even I have to admit that there are some paid programs I refuse to replace with freebee's, such as Microsoft Office.

Today I bring you 2 great programs I have found that have become very usedful in my workplace. Of course I am using them as personal programs and not as a company wide distribution like some of the Terms of Use of free software prohibit. Still, they come in very handy.

Need to fill out a form saved as a PDF file? PDF-XChange Viewer might be for you. This little program allows you to write directly on to PDF files. You can fill out forms, place notes and even copy text off the PDF file. This free program has many other features you can find on the link above. The best feature of this program, they have a portable version of it. I think it's a great download. 2 thumbs up.

What about if you need an image of your computer screen or maybe just a part of it, maybe to email, to add to a project or for posting on blogs? Lightscreen Portable can do the trick. As the name suggest and like the previous program, Lightscreen is a portable program from the family of Portableapps.com. This little program can copy the entire screen or simply the parts you select. Comes in handy at my job as well.

I have posted this before and so have others but Portableapps.com has some really great, free software including the Portableapps.com Suite. and it's not always necessary to have the Suite installed to use them. I highly recommend it to anyone who has a portable harddrive or a memory stick or simply to paste the application folder in their My Document folder and make a shortcut on the desktop of the .exe file.

Hope these programs come in handy.

For those out there looking for a screenshot capability other than the built-in one, check out PrintKey 2000 http://www.webtree.ca/newlife/printkey_info.htm.  This is a handy little app that I've been using for a long time, even before the 2000 version.  It can be setup to run at startup and launches on the Print Screen keypress.  You can take an entire screen cap (dual and tripple monitor included) or select certain parts.  Save it as bmp, jpeg, etc and also copy it to the clipboard.  Give it a look.
