The World Thru My Eyes - I speak my mind and man does it like to talk.

Well, if this doesn't prove Sotomayor's obvious racist mentality is a problem we should not be ignoring, then we may as well turn this country into a dictatorship and get it over with. Anyone remember that little story about the Connecticut firefighters, 19 White and 1 Hispanic, who were denied promotions because not enough minority people passed the test? Remember who was one of the Appeals Court Judges who ruled against these firefighters denying them their promotions just because most were White? For those of you already crying "that's not true" you can cry all you want. We all know this was reverse racism, especially when coming from a woman who believes that she can do a better job that a "White man" because she's a "wise, Latina woman".

Well those firefighters were vindicated today when the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the firefighters overturning Sotomayor's previous ruling against them. Talk about bad time as Sotomayor's nomination hearings are about to start in July and many had already been against her nomination for her comments about her being a "wise, Latina woman" and her ruling on the Connecticut firefighters. Could this ruling by the Supreme Court put a huge dent in Sotomayors chances of being nominated?

Personally, I hope it does and I hope she is denied her nomination. I am a Puerto Rican (like Sotomayor I believe) who believes that one should earn their way in life by hard work, determination and skills. I don't believe in Affirmative Action because it does not eliminate the problem, which is racism, but turns it against those who could be considered racist. To me this is like cheating, this is like getting to the top by elevator rather than walking up the steps. I want to be able to get into college, get a good job and become a person of high importance in my company because I earned it not because I'm a Minority and they feel bad for me. Had I been one of those who took the firefighters test and failed I would have stood by their side fighting for their rights to be promoted fairly. Where were all those who failed the test when those who passed it needed help defending themselves? Had she been a "wise, Latina woman" she would have never opened her mouth and said such a shameful comment. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

As for Sotamajor, I seriously doubt this decision will have much of an effect on her nomination to the court.

Probably not, but it will get some people thinking and it also gives us here some more entertainment. Just look at the Defenders that come out from under the rocks they have been hiding under for a while.

I unfortunately agree.

Seems like the left only feel Tea Parties are racist.

Funny huh? How does protesting for taxes get get labeled as racist but blatantly saying "wise, latina woman better than "white men", ruling against white firefighters just to give black firefighters some kind of joy and voting against overruling this in the supreme court is not?

You know, i can't deny I am happy to be Hispanic, I would hate to be a White person a few years from now. Never thought our society would learn towards vengance, eye for an eye and payback as oppose to growing up and learning from past mistakes. One could say our country resembles the story of The Curious case of Benjamin Buttons. except it would be The Curious Case of The United States.

If giving White people a taste of their own medicine is what the majority of Blacks and Hispanics wants, I may just consider moving back to Puerto Rico and getting aways from this ignorant and selfish generation.

i really don't have an opinion on sonia...but as far as this case goes....in the decision, it was pointed out that the appelate court panel that ruled on this that sonia was part of did what they were expected to do...follow precedent.

Sean, I'm not surprised you swallowed that.  The 'precedent' was no such thing - they didn't even put their reasons in writing, just 'denied' the appeal.  This 'relied on precedent' BS is just that - CYA BS.  After the fact, they tried some seriously convoluted il-logic to make it look like they 'had no choice,' but the facts of the 'precedent' they pretended to have adhered to bore no relationship to the facts in this case.

And thanks for condescending to share your great wisdom with us again.  I don't know how we've gotten along this long without it.

Though the whole "must get revenge" attitude sickens and annoys me, I believe that white people are not helping the situation.  I hate, hate, hate, how white people feel SO guilty about things that there parents, grandparents, etc. did, and so they continually allow other races to walk all over them.

Sorry, but I'm not paying for the sins of my fathers.  If you act like a fool, (no matter your race) I will call you on it.

I feel not the slightest bit of guilt. I'm white, most of my family immigrated to the US long after slavery ended. If some folks believe they should receive reparations and or special treatment for their ancestors, does that mean I should get a few slaves? As far as I know their were many slaves per slave owner. These "whites" were a very small percentage of the total white or minority population, even the ancestors alive today. Yet many minorities look at every white person as being the great, great grandson/daughter of Kunta Kintai's master.

My family immigrated here in the mid 1880's from Ireland.  No one talks about how the Irish were treated when they arrived ("No Irish Need Apply"), should I expect reparations for how my great-grandparents were treated?

By the way the blacks (and those from Mexico that chant "you stole Mexico from us") act, I should get special treatment as well.

The Irish really did get the shaft, didn't they? First for being Irish, then for being Catholic. Geez.

Like what Walenski said in Dark City, "It's a joke, it's all a big joke." It's a cycle that will go on and on, and I'm just going to not concern myself with it. See, simple.

Wow, its interesting how we all (well most of us) actually agree... yes, white guilt is really not helping. most whites were not slave owners (only the richest) and many whites were horribly abused too (like the irish). a lot of excellent points...

hey i know, how about reperations for women from men... eventually if you look back almost everyone is descendant from a woman who was a rape victim, and a man who was a rapist. So it is only natural that todays men (who descend from both) should pay reparations to todays women (who descend from both).

Oh yea... the really brutal slave owners raped their slaves, and as a result many black families today can trace their acestry to them. AND even with that, majority of "blacks" today are mixed. so maybe they should pay themselves reparations for the sins of their white ancestors towards their black ancestors.

one more thing... they got us citizenships and are no longer living in the hell hole that is africa... i would say that is more than fair reparation.

I have 2 main goals when posting articles on JU:

1 - I enjoy poking those who would normally disagree, contradict or completely dislike my opinions, especially political ones. It brings the spice that once called my attention on JU when I first came here and made it my home.

2 - More often than not some people never bother to actually educate or care about many of todays issues. I like bringing any issue I feel is important to the front in the hopes of sparking some good old fashion debating making people read up on these issues and try to give their best educated opinion. This sites (I don't mean the JU staff) has the tendancy of punishing those who make random, all feeling no common sense comments that forces some to do some research before commenting again. It worked with me.

The more I can get people to educate themselves, debate, find common ground and see the problems our country faces, the more I feel I have helped make this country a better place for me, my children and every person who lives here.
