The World Thru My Eyes - I speak my mind and man does it like to talk.

After Infinity Ward's idiotic (to me) choice of taking the "greatly anticipated" PC sequel to Call Of Duty 4 Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2 and stripping it of that which made it unique to PC gamers, dedicated servers; now, after the release of the game to the masses, it seems that IW had little intentions of pleasing the PC gamers community as I spoke to a friend who had told me he would not buy this game but never figured his wife loved him so much that she bought him a copy of the PC version and found out that this game was never meant for PC gamers.

Not only does Modern Warfare 2 lack dedicated servers, but on top of this IW decided to eliminate many of the things that made these games worth playing.

  • No console commands - there are no console commands that allows you to make changes to the games such as firing rate, unlimited ammo, weapon damage, etc.
  • No ability to kick people - IW will be responsible for catching hackers and kicking them, isn't that great?
  • Max players on multiplayer 18 - That is the most people that can be in a single multiplayer game. Good luck to the clans with more than 18 members.
  • IW.net picks host - Sorry the game is the only one who gets to chose who host the game and if the chosen perso leaves, there is a 5 second delay before a new player is chose to host, every time a new player is picked.
  • Can't reassign keys in single player mode - if nades are set to G then G you must use. Sorry. Not sure about multiplayer mode though I am sures it's the same.

I guess someone had to waste $60 in order for the rest of us to be saved from this horror of a game. I wouldn't pay $20 for it at this point. Hell, it's not even worth downloading illegally. This game was truly not meant with PC gamers in mind. The following article has proof of that as questions made to 2 IW reps by PC gamers in an online chat hosted by Best Buy (which is where I found most of the stuff I pointed out above) showed just how little they cared about PC gamers.

Moriarte: Ignoring IW.net, is the PC version a direct port of the console version?

Mackey-IW: No, PC has custom stuff like mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings.

LOL, ingame chatting, mouse control and graphic settings; that is what seperates us PC gamers from Console gamers. This is an insult to be honest.

I am sad that this could mean the end of the Call of Duty series for me. Maybe Treyatch might get a second chance to improve on their not so great but acceptable World At War version. Hell, here's a chance for more Zombie Mode updates and improvements.

I do wish to ask you readers your opinions on how you game.

It is 100% a console port.

It is 100% one of the best FPS I have played since Call of Duty Modern Warfare.  Me and a friend were having one of the best times we have ever had playing games playing the Spec Op missions last night.  The Vs multiplayer is even better than the original Call of Duty and I didn't experience a hint of lag, it was just as playable as the PS3 version of CoD 4 I had and I can't wait to do some more tonight now more of my friends have the game.  The single player is just as intense and as awesome as the first game, no surprise there, some crazy memorable moments.

I had CoD 4 on the PS3 but went with the PC version this time round cause most my gaming friends have PCs.  The PC version is exactly the same as the console versions that are 96+ on metacritic.  Fortunately for me I don't see the whole lack of dedicated servers knocking any score off the game I am playing, it's amazing.

I think people joining just another one of those little online cults that want to moan about dedicated servers are only hurting themselves by not getting this game.  Hope they have fun writing on forums about how evil EA is or how they wont buy a game cause of DRM or whatever the latest internet moaning craze is.

I already decided long ago (Well weeks) not to buy it with all the BS.  I still love COD4, aka MW1, with some hardcore mods and user maps it's still awesome.

This is just plain unacceptable. They can reason the lack of dedicated servers (which is partially BS, partially anti-piracy), you can reason IW.net (even though it takes the control away from the users, which is my most us PC gamers play on the PC).

But no custom key mapping? That is ridiculous. I can accept that from a $10 small budget indie game (a'la Fort Zombie), but not from a $60 AAA monster.

I am not sure why you feel the need to insult people for joining groups like clans and guilds. Do you have something against people in these groups? I belong to the Brotherhood Clan and the people I game with a great people. So great that my laptop's (my gaming system) videocard died on me and have not been able to game since and my friends are biuldning a new PC from spare parts so that I can join then online again. Seems to me my "cult" is a lot better than any concept of friends you may have. Unless you have some legit reason for disliking clans, I would ask to please chill with the insults. This whole PC gamers vs Console gamers crap needs to stop, we all people and we all like games and I don't see why we need to be at odds with each other.

I'm glad you are enjoying it. I never said everyone would hate it. I do, however, notice that you speak from experience with playing on consoles so you may not understand why PC gamers see problems with all of this. I have played on PS2 before and have enjoyed games on it, but PC gaming is a completely defferent experience. The ability to change things, to adjust almost anything, to modify the game completely and to play the game as you see fit by your rules. IW basically took all of this away from us. What's the point of playing games on PC when we can't make any changes to them as we see fit? For that matter we play them on consoles.

The ability to take a game and extend it's usefulness with adjustments, modifications and user created content is what makes PC games worth buying and playing, it's what PC gamers want in games.

You should try playing COD4 as it was created on PC and then play the modded servers so you can see the difference. The same with COD WAW. There is no comparison, the inability to modify the game makes the game worthless to a person like me.

BTW, I am not hrting for not getting this game. there will be others and I still have COD, COD2, COD 4 and COD WAW. If anything IW will be the one hurting but I guess this is what they wanted.

I'll stick to the ones before this for now. COD MW2 will definitely not enjoy my money unless they change it, plain and simple.

I'll be honest and say I am not 100% sure of this but my friend has yet to find the menu to change his keys.

ChuckCS I wasn't talking about clans, I've been members of clans before and it's a great way to enjoy a game, I was talking about how a bandwagon on the internet becomes a fucking army of people all singing the same tune.  People are all crying about something because everyone else is and it's cool to Boycott Left 4 Dead 2, hate EA, hate DRM, support Piratebay, cry about CoD MW 2 cause of dedicated servers.  It's boring to read the same unresearched, inherited opinions.

For history, my PC gaming experience goes back to the dawn of PC gaming, well not quite but I played Amiga before which had many of the same games, switched when PC games all started being SVGA (640x480!), I played in a Counter Strike clan from 1.3 (played the game before 1.3) to 1.6 and we always had a dedicated server.

What I'm basically saying is that dedicated servers may well improve Modern Warfare 2 but at the moment the argument is basically like a kid screaming in a carvery that he wants tomato sauce with his roast dinner cause he likes tomato sauce and the carvery aren't serving tomato sauce but they are still serving a bloody good dinner.

I just wanted to be sure, sounded like you were complaining about clans. None the less complaining about a legit problem is fair and I don't see why you think no one has the right to do so. Should we simply bend over and take what ever IW, Treyarch, EA and other gaming companies throw at us? I have the right to chose what I want, especially when it's my hard earned cash that is paying for it.

Who are you to deny anyone the right to criticize and boycott anything? And who are you to criticize them? You could have easily ignored this article yet you chose to read and then reply. On top of that you criticize that which you do yourself, your own unresearched, inherited opinion.

Again, people have the right to complain. I was looking forward to MW2 not just because it might have been a great game but also because of the ability to share yet another great game with my crew and to come up with new maps and mods for a newer version of a game is awesome, just like with WAW. I love the zombie mode in WAW and look forward to some interesting mods for it as well. Rat servers on COD4 are my favorite; nades that stick to any surface and act like claymore, rocket launchers that can be guided missiles, lazer cannons, self-aiming auto-torrents that can be placed almost everywhere. The ability to jump higher, to have unlimited ammo, to run faster, to kill with a single shot or an entire clip; all of this is what people like about all of these Call of Duty games. This was all taken away from us not just with the dedicated servers but with the no console commands and with not being able to assign what keys should go with what weapon.

If you like it the way it is that's all good. There will always be some or many that will like it, but there are a lot of us who don't and if you don't like that we don't like it then that's you right just don't be a hater because of it.

What bothers me is the PC version is the same price as the console one.  At a glance you would think they should be priced the same.  That is until you realize developer have to pay royaltys per CD to the the consule comp. Ie microsoft, Sony esc.  This mean that if you buy teh PC versoin Activision is pocketing an additional 10$ they dont deserve.

on Nov 11, 2009

also take note Infinity ward host the servers for 360 / PS3 , for PC they host a single server that pretty much serves as a meeting place before the game is hosted by 1 person with the best connection.

indirectly PC gamers are paying for the servers 360/PS3 users play on

The poll is rather biased, seeing as we're all on the Demigod forums (PC game)

Oh man the whole ending section of the game was epic, enjoyed it even more than the first one.  Now to finish off the spec ops and do some multiplayer, glad I have tomorrow off work

on Nov 12, 2009

honestly, i just played it for the last 2 days and found that it's a good game but no more

i found single player storyline too short but well made a little bit un-realistic but i loved playing it.

the only thing that i disliked is the scoobidoo like ending who gave me with a taste of unease like a " haha we pwned you if you want a real end buy the next opus for only 39,99 € "

like this IW have time to make this game a little bit more PC friendly ... we will see, i dont want to explain the end here but anyone who played it will understand.

so for the multiplayer aspect... well finally this IW.net stuff works fine, switching host during action sometimes make you cry but basiclly it happens 1 or 2 time per hour, it's just that sometimes migration fail and you don't know why... i played a few and reached lvl 18 but i already saw a lvl 49, holy sh... did this guy sleeped during the last 3 days?

but as a lot of people where complaining i found thaht 9vs9 isn't enough on some maps. there are maps really small ( too small maybe) but there is big one too, really big where you can run alone for 3 minutes without founding anyone who could deserve some real multiplayer stuff like dedicated server and 30 or more players inside.

technically the came is awesome, beautiful, faster than cod 4, so fast that at the beginning i thinked i was playing team fortress watching bunny jumper's everywhere.

and because the game is this it will really miss some modding, new maps, new models.

oh and for the end, the think that annoyed me the most...

i bought the retail version of the game, 2 DVD inside but i just used the first one... 10 minuts install after i have two shorcut on desktop awaiting for me double clicking ... no ask for second DVD... so i tried to launch the game, but the only thing that started was STEAM and a 5 hours long download ...

so i'm asking IW why do you make a PC version with two DVD if it's just to install STEAM on your computer ( 25 ko if i dont mistake) and let it download all you need ...

i tried and didn't found any issue to install the game using the disk, disturbing no?
