The World Thru My Eyes - I speak my mind and man does it like to talk.

Just the other day I was watching a Tekzilla episode where they were talking about 3D TVs, the different 3D glasses that exist and how it affects people who use prescription glasses underneath the 3D glasses and it got me to think about the future of 3D TVs and how an article on Maximum PC states that although 3D TVs don’t seem to be catching on and don’t seem like they will due to the tech being too new and not developed enough, they still believe it’s not gonna go bye-bye any time soon if at all.

But then as I was reading thru some of the facebook comments on my account and saw that one of the people I subscribe to on youtube said they were gonna have a new youtube account and it got me thinking how I have been planning to make a video blog for quite some time but have not had the time or money to get the proper equipment, website and such. Due my thoughts about my video blog I thought about the type of camera I would like to buy and I remembered about the 3D video cameras I saw on the CES 2011 videos online. And that's when I started thinking about people who will eventually buy these cameras and probably upload 3D videos on to youtube.

My questions are can youtube display 3D videos? Can they be seen as 3D from out end? I figure, obviously, one would need a 3D TV or monitor to view them but would it matter why type is used? What about those who don’t have 3D yet? I figure there would be a 2D option although in some cases it may be pointless as some videos will be made with 3D in mind so 2D would be basically useless.

I have not seen anything out there that talks about 3D youtube videos and such. Has anyone heard about this possibility? This is just a curiosity of mine as I just happen to think about it and could not help but wonder. It would be pretty neat to see what some people could do with 3D hardware on youtube. I can imagine a youtube caster like freddiew who uploads videos he makes with video editing software like Adobe Elements and such making cool 3D movies with his style? That would be pretty cool. What do you think?

I don't see it working.

i would say If your Monitor and Graphics card can display 3D then and you have the right 3D glasses you can watch 3D now

you can even at this time with said stuff above

seen some websites in 3D

Nvidia-3D

If you are looking to purchase a new PC or upgrade your existing PC, 3D capability is a must have feature for anyone interested in gaming, photography, movies, multimedia applications, or web surfing.

I just need the 3D Glasses hope it's a Christmas Present

Would you please elaborate? I would really like to hear why you don't think it will. 3D seems to be todays TV version of the iPhone where most can't really afford it, it's not absolutely necessary but people will get it anyways. It would only be natural that people will want to play with 3D video and youtube as well.

Actually, I do see it happening. With Kinect type technology... maybe not many doing it to begin with, but it'll get there.

That was in 2009.

I don't see it working.

Why do I say that, soley based upon my own feelings and opinion.

3D is bascially 50's technology, yes there have been improvements made but not enough to bring it to the consumer at a prices that are affordable.  The movie industry is still trying to find a cheaper way to make and produce 3D media that will make it a mass appeal item.   No facts or figures to give you, just some reading on the subject.

I think they need to spend the time and effort in developing the holodeck concept.  Now there is something that will be a break through.

Actually holography isn't all that new either. Back in 02 when I worked st a clock factory I used to build my own circuit boards. I subscribed to a magazine called popular electronics. Each month they came out with a set of do it yourself circuits. One of them was building the video projector plus the support circuitry and bearing in mind that this was nine years ago the concept though primitive actually worked. It involved projecting the image on a cloud. It was a mist you created using dry ice. I tried it and I fried it. So much for that. 3D is very difficult to achieve without the use of glasses. It involves a central screen with twin projectors. One in front and one in back. Each projector has the three basic elements. RGB...red green and blue. The one stumbling block is depth. How to bring out the subject so that it looks 'real'. The best that has ever been achieved is the movie Pandora. CGI. Pixar and a few others have done it but it isn't true 3D. All their doing is taking 3D images and putting them on a 2D background. It has a way to go yet because the technology is very much in its infancy. Eventually it will happen  but not any time soon.

Pixar and a few others have done it but it isn't true 3D.

I'd think the only "true" 3D would involve hordes of tiny people, dogs, etc. dancing around in boxes of varying size.

I know I'm taking what you wrote to ridiculous extreme, Uvah...but for a purpose: It's all a scam. There is no true 3D. You just have varying degrees of success with the illusion of 3D.

I think I agree with them:

"The entertainment and electronics industries keep trying to push 3D on consumers, even though a lot of smart people have caught on to the fact that it’s a scam. It’s time to stop the madness."

Really.... It's nice, but it can wait. It's like "Oh, you gotta get this new thing!". No I don't. The old thing is working great for now. Go ahead and develop it at a sane pace. Look at it from all sides. Kick the tires. No need to rush headlong into it.

But it'll come. Have no doubts.

Ignore the current ver of 3D that requires glasses.

It really is old tech.

Next generation won't need glasses....

No problem Doc. That much is a given. And you're right when you say it'll come in time. The only 'true' 3D is what you see when you open your eyes every day. Creating that artificially.......nah. It would take an insane amount of money to design, manufacture, deploy and sync a myriad of mini projectors just to cover one scene. Imagine the cost if they had to cover multiple scenes, multiple angles and the many aspects of each. The variables are nearly infinite.
